 Survivor's  SUCCESS  StorIES

"What is a survivor?  A survivor is a person who has gone through a terrible ordeal and has pulled themselves out of a dark hole, turned their life around and put themselves back together.  If you are in that dark hole – you can take solace in the fact that it is possible to climb out.  Please learn from me that help is ready and available…it all starts with one phone call to the 24 hour hot-line or a visit to the Crisis Shelter…they can help you…don’t wait until its too late…everyone deserves to be happy."

"For months I accompanied my children to the Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County. At each session I would wait for the counselor to emerge with my child and pronounce them healed. It took months of patient advice and encouragement from each counselor for me to understand that healing is a long process but you CAN heal."

"The staff at the CSLC was always there for me and always willing to sit and listen to the stressful days that I had endured.  They were there for me through the hard times, times of joy and even now that I have graduated from the program and am about to finish school this year, they are still there for me. "

"The counselors at the Crisis Shelter are trained to know what to say.  Now my children know that there are many people who care about them, who SUPPORT them, who know that they were deeply hurt by someone who wasn’t ever supposed to hurt them.  They have a safety plan to follow when they are at their dad’s.  They feel SAFE.  They call the Crisis Shelter the SAFE PLACE."

"I enrolled back in college and have been named to the Dean’s List each semester.  I am working toward a degree in Social Work, so that one day I can look into the teary eyes of a broken woman and tell her without hesitation that she can have the life she dreams about; she can live without fear; she can find the strength to do it, because I too, was once a teary-eyed, broken woman."

"I encourage everyone to let others help.  There are people everywhere that want nothing more but the best for you and will stand by your side through the entire process.  Whether it’s friends, family, a church group or a wonderful agency like the Crisis Shelter, know that there are people who genuinely care about you and want to help."

"I have a lot on my plate now, but it is MY PLATE.  I am a 33 year old single mom raising 3 children who grew up in a house where dad hit mom.  I am proud to say My SPIRIT has not been broken, I am strong, smart and I plan on staying busy picking up the pieces because I WILL raise each of those children to be healthy, respective, honorable, loving individuals!  As long as we are living we are all survivors, some of us may have more challenges to survive but as long as YOU refuse to be a victim~~~ you ARE a survivor!  Thank you to the Crisis Shelter; they helped save my life and the lives of 3 very special children."
