Statistics & Research provide the vehicle by which we make needs assessments. These tools direct our focus for planning and ultimately building capacity for relevant services. Need is determined by the number of cases reported of persons infected with HIV/AIDS and those challenged with substance abuse issues. According to data??? , there is a clear link between the two. Further, people in the African-American community are disproportionately infected and affected by these diseases. Accordingly, SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration) funded the Morning Light project to address the needs of this community from a faith-based perspective.
