The Three Rivers Free-Net (TRFN) began providing services in 1994, including web hosting, email, training, and free Internet access to non-profit organizations in our area. As technology has changed, so has TRFN. With the advent of free email and low-cost Internet access TRFN stopped providing many of the original services (we are a non-profit, too, and we have to watch how we spend our dollars!).

Earlier this year, the web server that we purchased in the mid-90's began experiencing multiple hardware problems. We had been patching it together for the past several years, but the time finally came to de-commission it.

On May 31st 2004, we unplugged the TRFN server for the final time. At that time, TRFN stopped hosting web sites. We temporarily moved our home page to another web server (which is why www.trfn.org still works), but we could not move the web sites of our members to that server. We have been working with our non-profit members to help them to find free or low-cost web hosting elsewhere. We will make sure that for the remainder of 2004, TRFN web addresses will still work for organizations that move their sites to other web hosting services (i.e., if you go to in www.trfn.org/member_organization, we will seamlessly re-direct the request to the new web hosting server for the member organization).

A special thank you to the many member organizations, devoted volunteers, and Carnegie Library employees who have worked for the past 11-12 years to help hundreds of non-profits in our region to use technology.
